I prefer it to Rolling Stone because it focuses more on the music than the artists image and selling copies - ie. They are less likely to have Jessica Simpson on the cover. This sums it up for me: when Hail to the Thief came out Spin had Radiohead on the cover while Rolling Stone had Britney Spears. 4.0

While Rolling Stone has always been known for journalism that covers topics outside of the world of music, focusing on a broader range of the cultural spectrum, Spin keeps a closer eye on the music world, giving it's readers an in-depth view of all things music. It has become tight and valid competition with Rolling Stone, the original music magazine. I always enjoy their reviews, articles, fantastic pictures, interviews and movie news (although I wish it was a bit more thorough).
They have always given strong support to Indie bands and one of my favorites Radiohead. Their Best of issues are always the best and their illustrations and cover art are second to none.
I have loved their 40 best albums, 40 best bands, 40 most influential bands issues.
Spin will continue to be the front running music magazine for years to come I'm sure and continue to be my personal favorite. Kurt Cobain is usually on the cover quite often so this is definitely a great magazine for Kurt or Nirvana fans. One of the reasons I definitely got into Spin was due to their lack of teeny bopper editorials. This magazine covers real rock bands and great Indie music. 5.0
