American Farriers Journal
Submitted By: Lloyd Phillips CJF:Dear Sirs,
I have now been shoeing horses full time for 20 years, I finally passed my "Certified Journeyman Farrier". There are so many opinions as to whether or not this is a good thing.
Knowledge is only good. Is there ever too much knowledge or experience? I failed the written twice, the bar shoe three times, and the practicle five times. I finally passed on my 6th try.
There is such controversy over this that it has compelled me to sit down and take the time to give my opinion. Along with my career I have a family. With such a busy schedule taking the time to pass this test was a very difficult task, but I knew in my heart that achieving this goal would put me in a different catagory amongst my peers. I feel that with each time I took my test that the experience of it only helped and made me a better shoer. Now that I have passed I have a new outlook. My confidence has reached a new level, my clients appreciate the fact that their farrier has this extra certification, and other farriers and veternarians have a new respect for me. I would highly recommend for anyone who is considering this endeavor to step forward and pursue it, and to keep trying until the have reached their goal. 4.0
