Downbeat magazine is a classic magazine with a long prestigious history. Some of the greatest jazz critics have written for it in the past, and it is doing a fine job continuing that legacy. It is a terrific source for news and articles about contemporary jazz.

Not only do they give comprehensive reviews by using more than one critic to review an album, but they also review ALL forms of jazz, straight-ahead and post-bop, but also including avant-garde instrumental and post-rock music. It is both a magazine for the baby boomers and generation X.
